tape. However, I did tackle finishing the contractor installed sheetrock in my 25' x 25' garage. Took a long time although I did do some plumbing while I was at it. Contrary to what everyone suggests here, I went with orange peel texture. I think I paid a pro $150 and it came out out great, the quality is as good as the rest of my house. Maybe there is a point with cleaning, but how many of you guys have every washed the walls in your garage. Style, Get real. Orange peel is everywhere, it's not going away soon, plus we're talking about a garage here. I've been in the rental house business 15 years and have repaired many wall holes, up to a stud center width wide and 24" or more tall. Most fixes you cannot tell where they were done at all and the rest are close to that quality. Orange peel is an easy finish to duplicate with spray can products, for areas up to about 3, maybe 4 sg. ft.. The trick, and it's not a tough one, is matching texture size--orange peel is just overlapping dots. It has great hiding qualities and, in terms of ease of execution, I fail to see why a smooth finish repair of comparable quality would be significantly easier to accomplish (for areas the size mentioned above).
